Science Day is a flagship initiative led by the Flemish government, representing the largest science gathering in Flanders and Brussels. It features active participation from Flemish universities, colleges, scientific institutions, STEM academies, and various associations. The primary focus is on presenting scientific research and technological innovations in novel and engaging ways. During this event, the public gains access to research facilities, where scientists showcase their work through a myriad of demonstrations, exhibitions, and experiments. For Science Day 2022, the University Hospital Gent collaborated with ESR1 Sophie Valkenburg and colleagues from the Nephrology department to organize an interactive program tailored to educate young audiences about the structure and function of the kidneys.
